SOCIO-ECONOMIC FEATURES


A major contributor to the municipal income of Buenavista is the operation of 5 lime factories in the municipality and of at least 18 quarry (limestone) projects. The slow implementation of the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program (CARP) proves to be a deterrent in the collection of real property taxes in the concerned areas.

The Oro Verde Holding and Development Corporation at Brgy. Piņa operates a mango fruit processing plant. There are 4 water bottling plants that operate in the Municipality which are situated at; Brgy. Piņa, Bgry. Mc Lain , Bgry. Getulio and at Brgy. Mabini. There are 1 inland and 5 beach resorts which occupy around 23 hectares of land.

There are at least 727 commercial establishments concentrated at Brgy. Sto. Rosario and Brgy. Poblacion, Buenavista, Guimaras. These include hardwares, groceries, dry goods, RTW and retail stores. The Municipality of Buenavista has a total of 32 schools: 26 public elementary schools and 4 public secondary schools. The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) supervised the Guimaras State College which offers secondary and tertiary education. A private school, The Good Shepherd's Fold Academy offers complete elementary, secondary and two year liberal arts and one year secretarial courses.
