Windrow composting is also showcased at the Center.
The Dunang Manggad Center is a pilot facility designed to be a demonstration site showcasing the composting component of the solid waste management program of the municipality. Situated on a 500 sq. m. lot beside the municipal hall, the area had been earlier a garbage dump for wastes produced within the surroundings of the town plaza and municipal building.
Now, at the entrance of the Center stands the Dunang Manggad pavilion where lectures and orientations on Ecological Solid Waste Management are being held. Beside the pavilion are small structures of light materials which include the shredding and packaging area, the compost boxes, the worm station, and the vermin-composting areas. Since its launching in November 2005, the Dunang Manggad has been the host to many demonstrations showing the composting process African night crawlers to accelerate the breakdown of organic materials. About 1 ton of compostable materials are being processed at the Center every week.
