The 1995 Census Report for the Municipality of Buenavista registered a total population of 37,681 with an average annual growth rate of 1.70 percent. The Municipality has seven (7) urban barangays namely, Mclain, New Poblacion, Old Poblacion, Rizal, Salvacion, Sto. Rosario and Tastasan. Barangay Salvacion, registered the highest population at 2,724 followed by New Poblacion at 2,720 while Old Poblacion is the least populated urban barangay at 736. The Municipality has 29 rural barangays. Barangay Avila is highly populated with 2,044 followed by East Valencia with 1,949 populations. Barangay Sawang is the least populated area with only 206 inhabitants.
The 1995 Census of Population recorded a total of 7,230 households with an average household size of (5) five persons. Among the seven (7) urban barangays, Salvacion has the highest number with 538 households and Tastasan has the least with 200 households. Barangay East Valencia has the highest number among 29 rural barangays with 389 households followed by Barangay Avila with 384 households while Sawang has the least number with only 45 households.
