COLLECTION AND SEGREGATION

Waste segregation boxes are placed in strategic locations in the municipality.

The municipality of Buenavista has a total of 36 barangays, 29 of which are classified as rural, and 7 as urban barangays. The urban barangays which has a higher population density than the rural barangays are covered by the LGUs waste collection system. These include barangays Mclain, New and Old Poblacion, Rizal, Salvacion, Sto. Rosario and Tastasan.  One dump truck with a capacity of 6 to 7 cubic meters is being used for collecting both household and market wastes. Two waste collection trips are scheduled on Mondays and one from Tuesday to Saturday. For the rural barangays the Local Government Unit promotes the waste reduction  strategies of selling of  recyclable materials to the junk shop operators  and compost making.

Protective gears are used by collectors in their daily rounds.
Implementation of waste segregation has been started in the 2 public markets (New Poblacion and Sto. Rosario) in September 2005. Garbage bins for segregation have been placed in strategic locations such as wharves, public markets, parks, and in front of the municipal buildings. At the public markets “recoridas” or announcements through public address systems concerning municipal regulations on sanitation, segregation of wastes and maintenance of waste bins and boxes are carried out during market days every week.
