COMPOSTING PROCESS


Soil conditioner produced at the Dunang manggad Center are applied to crops grown at the municipal.

Composting materials used at the Dunang Manggad Center include biodegradable wastes from the public markets and yard wastes from the premises of the municipal buildings, rice straw and sawdust obtained for free from rice farmers and saw mills, and animal manure which can be bought at P20.00 per sack. One ton of biodegradable wastes are mixed with 300 kilos of manure. At the start of its operations, 1 kilo of worms are bought from the Henares Farms at a cost of P500.00. After six months, there are now around 15 kilos of worms in the Dunang Manggad Center.

Guides on the composting process in English and Illonggo are produced by the LGU with the assistance of the GTZ-AHT Solid Waste Management for LGUs. The bulk of the finished products are being used in trial fields of the Municipal Agriculture Office .A trial sale of the soil conditioners are being conducted to test the market of compost in the area. Fresh compost is sold at P3.00 per kilo while vermin-casts are sold at P5.00 a kilo.

Finished products are placed inside plastic bags bearing the sign Dunang Manggad Vermicompost.
